Why, back in my day...
- Phones had permanent wires;
- Phones only had one ringtone-ringing bell tone;
- Hanging up literally meant hanging up the receiver on a hook to end a call;
- Want privacy? Buy an extra long cord, go to the bathroom/closet/outside, and don't forget to close the door behind you;
- We couldn't buy phones at a store...we had to lease them from the phone company;
- Local calls were truly local...if the friend/family member you wanted to call was in a different town, even if it was in the same area code, it was a long distance call;
- $0.25/minute for long distance calls was a steal!
- Looking for a phone number? Google schmoogle! "Let your fingers do the walking"; in other words, open up a paper directory;
- Out of town directory assistance? 1-(area code)-555-1212...and yes, that was a long distance call;
- ALL toll free calls were 1-800-xxx-xxxx only; no 888, 877, 866, 855;
- Area code 976 numbers...awwwww yeeeeah!!! (Bow-chika-wow-wow!)
- Some phones didn't have touch tone buttons...they had rotary dials.
...and you actually would hate people with zeros in their number...ugh, this guy's got zeros... oh, screw that guy! - Louis CK |
